Overview of Enumeration on Basic Necessities Survey BNS in Yankari Game Resever

Yankari Game Reserve, located in Bauchi State, Nigeria, is a significant wildlife and nature conservation area. Understanding the basic needs and socioeconomic conditions of the communities surrounding the reserve is critical for implementing effective conservation strategies and ensuring community support for conservation efforts. A comprehensive Basic Necessities Survey (BNS) will be conducted to collect demographic, social, and economic data from these communities.

The BNS enumeration in Yankari aims to provide a detailed and accurate understanding of the community's needs and conditions. This information will be instrumental in informing policy decisions, resource allocation, and development initiatives tailored to the specific needs of the Yankari community. The Basic Necessities Survey (BNS) to be conducted in Yankari is a comprehensive data collection initiative aimed at understanding the demographic and social dynamics of the community. The enumeration process involves several key activities designed to gather accurate and meaningful data:

Job Descriptions

  1. Community and Home Visits: Enumerators will visit various communities and homes within Yankari to conduct face-to-face interviews. These visits are crucial for collecting detailed demographic and social data directly from the residents.
  2. Predefined Surveys: Enumerators will work with predefined survey instruments to gather targeted information. These surveys are structured to capture specific data points relevant to the study.
  3. Extensive Area Surveys: The enumeration will cover extensive areas within the region, ensuring a thorough and representative sample of the population.
  4. Local Language Interpretation: To facilitate better understanding and accurate responses, enumerators will interpret interview questions into local languages as needed. This step ensures that language barriers do not hinder the data collection process.
  5. Survey Form Management (Kobo Collect): Enumerators will fill out survey forms using Kobo Collect, a digital data collection tool. They will also explain the items on the survey forms to the respondents to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  6. Data Accuracy Verification: Enumerators will double-check the information recorded on the survey forms to ensure its accuracy before submission. This verification step is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the data.
  7. Issue Identification and Reporting: Any issues that arise during the data collection process, such as difficulties in obtaining valid data, will be promptly identified and reported by the enumerators.
  8. Data Compilation and Recording: The collected data will be compiled and recorded into a predefined database, ensuring organized and accessible information for analysis.
  9. Communication with Data Analyst/Supervisor: Enumerators will maintain communication with data analysts or supervisors to resolve any concerns or issues related to the data. This collaboration ensures that any discrepancies or challenges are addressed promptly.

Methodology

The survey will employ a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. Enumerators will use Kobo Collect for data entry and ensure all data is accurately recorded and verified. Interviews will be conducted in the local language to ensure clarity and comprehension.

Duration

The BNS will be conducted over a period of 10 days, with enumerators expected to work full-time during this period.

Logistics and Support

Enumerators will be provided with the necessary tools and resources, including training on the use of Kobo Collect and other survey instruments. Transportation to and from the survey areas will be arranged.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must demonstrate clearly that they have the necessary experience and skills to work with team members in collecting and collating data,

 

 This requires:

 

  1. Either an ND, HND, or BSc. in relevant field
  2. Strong qualitative and quantitative skills,
  3. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interpret and explain survey questions in the local language (Hausa).
  4. Experience in conducting surveys and data collection.
  5. Proficiency in using data collection tools such as Kobo Collect.
  6. Ability to work effectively with team members.
  7. Attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
