Salary: N3,330,000 per annum (gross)
Job Summary:
The Operations Room Assistant will play a crucial supporting role in the effective coordination and management of communication, technology, and data-related functions within the WCS Yankari Landscape. Reporting directly to the Yankari Project Manager, the incumbent will support the Operations Room team in overseeing radio and GSM communications with various stakeholders, supporting IT issues, and ensuring the efficient functioning of the operations room, repeater station, and associated equipment.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Communication Management: Manage radio and GSM communications with rangers, elephant guardians, communities, and human sources to facilitate effective information flow.
- IT Support: Provide support to WCS Yankari staff on all IT-related issues to ensure seamless operations.
- Data Management: Download SMART data, pictures, and other patrol data after each patrol, ensuring accurate and timely data management and reporting.
- Equipment Issuance: Issue SMART devices, cameras, binoculars, and other patrol equipment to rangers, maintaining proper records of equipment distribution.
- Operations Room Management: Oversee the operations room, repeater station, and associated equipment to ensure their proper functioning and maintain regular cleaning of all facilities and equipment.
- Spatial Data Support: Support spatial data collection, cleaning, quality assurance, and analyses, working closely with WCS GIS and Database Manager in Calabar.
- Database Management: Perform backup and recovery of the WCS Yankari database, including the SMART database. Manage SMART database users and ensure regular updates.
- Data Security: Implement measures to ensure the security of all WCS data, safeguarding against unauthorized access.
- Patrol Coordination: Assist in organizing ranger patrols, keeping track of GPS coordinates of WCS activities, and supporting mapping efforts.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the WCS GIS and Database Manager in Calabar to ensure cohesive data management practices.
- Field Support: Assist with school visits, workshops, camera trapping, and other field activities as needed.
- Ad Hoc Duties: Undertake any other duty as assigned by the Yankari Project Manager, to contribute to the overall success of WCS Yankari operations.
The Operations Room Assistant is a pivotal role that requires a combination of communication, technology, and organizational skills to support wildlife conservation efforts in the Yankari landscape.
