Organization Background

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) began operations in Bangladesh in 2004. The programme in Bangladesh is part of the global WCS network, working in more than 60 countries on over 500 projects that are intended to help protect both wildlife and the wild places in which they live. WCS-BD is a not for profit conservation organization registered with the Government of Bangladesh’s NGO Affairs Bureau.

 

Scope of Work

WCS is implementing a US Department of State funded project in Bangladesh “Scaling up Enforcement Capacity and Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Networks in South Asia”. The project includes provision of training to government partners on the threats to wildlife and ways to counter those threats along with other activities and involves working with subject matter experts to develop training materials, support government agencies and provide technical support to project partners.

The consultant will be expected to provide programmatic and technical support to the CWT programme in Bangladesh to provide technical inputs, support timely delivery of activities and grant reporting for the remainder of the project. He/she will maintain appropriate communication with CWT staff and key regional staff providing an important technical support and advisory function.

Assignment Description

The Consultant will support the implementation of activities under the US funded project including the development of training materials, technical support to project delivery, reporting requirements and other technical support as required. This will include:

  • Provision of technical support and input to project activities and implementation.
  • Review of content for training sessions being developed relevant to illegal wildlife trade.
  • Technical support to local staff in regard to data analysis and interpretation and proposal development.
  • Support to donor reporting requirements.

 

Skills Required

  • A minimum of five years’ experience working in conservation projects in Bangladesh and outside.
  • Knowledge of conservation issues relevant to Bangladesh and preferably specific to illegal wildlife trade.
  • Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • A minimum of ten year experience working with international donor agencies including INL, USAID, UK Defra, UNDP, World Bank, Asian Development Bank.

As this is a remote role and can be delivered from any location, the applicant must have their own reliable internet connection (strong enough to join regular video calls and handle transfer of large files), and their own computer.

 

Additional Skills/Experience

  • Experience with reporting requirements to large international donors.
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation.
  • Previous experience with delivery of capacity building activities relevant to illegal wildlife trade
